Maxconsole is claiming that the upcoming PSP 3000 can be played using a PlayStation 3 controller, having been tipped off by an inside contact at Best Buy. Maybe Sony does love our thumb joints after all.

The insider also revealed that the latest PSP model would support 480i cables when playing games on a TV set, in addition to the standard component 480p.

Sony has already announced that the redesigned handheld will feature a ramped-up LCD screen - think crisper, more intense colours and less glare when playing outside - and a built-in microphone. It's out on October 14 in the US, October 15 in Europe and October 16 in Australia.
