IntroductionWorld In Conflict is questionably the best RTS game of 2007 with its unique style of play ditching the good old tank rush and aircraft spam for more teambased gameplay and tactical aids that kill everything :D
Most other RTS games usually need allot of skill and knowledge to win World In conflict however is mainly team oriented and doesn't really have much tactics just wreck havoc over the battlefield which makes WIC really fun. Granted that there is no base building and resource gathering WIC gets you that action quicker right from the start of the game.
SingleplayerWorld In Conflict's main idea is that USSR made a huge attack before the Berlin wall fell and assaulted and captured Towns and cities all over America. The Storyline in WIC is one of the best in a rts not surprising as it was co-written be Larry Bond who is famous for writing books based on the cold war. As much as the story in WIC is amazing the cut-scenes and voice acting is superb every word seems to hit the right note every cutscene is like a movie to watch it brings out sadness, action and everything else. Bot wise the commies are pretty stupid...infantry running into tanks etc but you have to admit there are whole lot of them its like getting a ketchup bottle and pouring it onto a map sometimes. The characters are pretty unique, there's this Tank Commander called Bannon
[last name] at the start of the campaign you get to hate him he always acts arrogant and thinks better than you often getting you to do the dirty work but as you get through the campaign its kinda sad how he joined the army to make his dad proud and that his dad died and his mom married a jerk after him *spoilers* and even after that it breaks your heart how he sacrifices himself to a nuke and his company to have the rest of the soldiers retreat. The Campaign isn't that long you can finish it in a day but its worth playing especially if you are a hardcore cold war fan.
MultiplayerThe main "fun" part of WIC is the multiplayer if you thought singleplayer was cool you might the multiplayer waaay better. The aspect of team based Action-RTS is the center of all multiplayer. The teamwork plan/thing Massive Entertainment made is by splitting all units into 4 roles: Infantry for soldiers, armor for tanks, air for helicopters and support for artillery, AA and repair tanks. Buying units at the heart of your role is cheaper and units outside of your role
[e.g choosing medium tank when infantry] are more expensive and on some of the units in the other roles are available. Love the rock-paper-scissors thing or hate it tough, go cry about it. Another interesting feature in WIC is it's tactical aid system...especially online TA
[Tactical aid] is really fun to use, from dropping paratroopers around the map to bombarding the enemy with artillery strikes blowing up stuff has never been funner. Multiplayer in world in conflict is highly addictive and the trend isn't hard to pick up although some players find it confusing or stupid.
Technical stuffThis Game runs pretty well on a normal medium range computer and can even run on slightly slower computers with 512 ram 80gig hard drive etc. Even for medium graphics quality its still very pretty for an RTS. And there are lots of stunning graphical effects for people who own higher end computers. From My point of view for 2007 wic graphically wise its up there with Crysis but unlike Crysis it demands allot less from your computer. Frame rate is smooth although it can get a bit choppy when there are lots of explosions but hey thats the fun part right?
As much as i love playing World in Conflict there are some downsides dumb bots etc overall its a solid great game i would rate it 8.5/10 Massive also is making an expansion pack for WIC and is porting that too PS3 and the 360 so console fans wont miss out.
